God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”
–2 Corinthians 9:8
Sharing brings joy. To others, to God, and to us.
Why support One Great Hour of Sharing?
Your gifts lend a hand after devastating natural disasters wipe out entire cities. They help by educating and equipping individuals and congregations to eliminate hunger by addressing the issues that perpetuate hunger. And these gifts help people help themselves with long-term solutions to poverty and pressing community problems. The ministries supported by One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) are ever present, responding with love and compassion.
Try these ways to promote OGHS
  • Forward this email to members of your session and other committee members responsible for promotion.
  • Make sure your congregation has received the Offering materials and plans to promote the Offering in the coming weeks. Contact Presbyterian Distribution Service at pds@pcusa.org to order.
  • Visit the OGHS website, where you will find resources such as bulletin inserts, minutes for mission, clip art for newsletters, and more.
  • Use these resources to help promote the Offering.
  • Involve children and youth in the promotion by asking the children to perform a skit. Instead of placing the bulletin inserts in the bulletins, ask children and youth to hand them to people as they enter the sanctuary.
  • See detailed lists of grants for PDA, PHP, and SDOP.
One Great Hour of CARING
The Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP) provided support to COOPEMULNAGTLE, in Nicaragua, which works in four communities, benefiting small-farming-cooperative families by improving agricultural production techniques. In total PHP provided nearly $2 million to support 163 programs working to eliminate hunger and its causes.
One Great Hour of LOVING
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) distributed almost $4.8 million to assist in times of need with such catastrophic events as the earthquake tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan and to help with the ongoing rebuilding of Haiti. PDA provided nearly $2.1 million for recovery from the record breaking number of tornadoes, floods, and wildfires across the United States in 2011.
One Great Hour of BELIEVING
Self-Development of People (SDOP) disbursed almost $2 million to support efforts like the Team Builders on Point Crew, in Chicago, Illinois. This program trains ex-offenders in building construction, repair, and maintenance and enables group members to provide employment for themselves in the community and surrounding areas year-round.
One Great Hour of Sharing
Thank you for supporting OGHS and sharing God’s abundance.
